AKRON LOCALS TEAM UP AGAIN TO FIGHT BREAST CANCER

April 4, 2016 - FAIRLAWN, OH – Akron natives Kathy & Lee Giller and Nancy Schrader are teaming up with The Rail for its fifth annual “Rail Against Breast Cancer.”  The benefit will be held on Sunday, May 1st from 5:30 - 8:30pm to raise funds for their participation in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day in Cleveland, a 60-mile walk to erase breast cancer.

Like it is for so many other teams who participate in the 3-Day, this walk is deeply personal for the Giller family, as Lee celebrates 11 years of survivorship this year.  For the past ten years, the Giller family, along with some close friends, have made it their mission to spread the word about male breast cancer, hence their team’s name “Breast Man Walking.”

“Many people still don’t realize that men can have breast cancer,” said Lee’s wife, Kathy Giller. “That puts them at a higher risk for later diagnosis and death.” Team “Breast Man Walking” has raised more than just awareness about male breast cancer; they’ve raised over $400,000 to help fund research for new treatments and, hopefully, find a cure.

“The 3-Day has given us a community of love and hope since Lee's diagnosis,” says Lee’s wife, Kathy Giller. “And, ironically, if it were not for breast cancer, we may never have met some of these most wonderful people. If breast cancer is the lemon, then the 3-Day is our lemonade!”

Ticket holders for the “Rail Against Breast Cancer” will enjoy an evening of live music by Akron’s Swizzle Stick Band, auction and raffle items, as well as The Rail’s all-Ohio burger sliders, locally sourced hand-dipped milkshakes, locally distilled spirits and tasty house-made sides.

Tickets for this private event are $75 per person. For advance reservations, please contact The Rail at 330-864–RAIL {7245}. The two other RAIL locations (in Canton at Belden Village Mall and in North Olmsted at Great Northern Mall) will also be donating a portion of their profits that day.
